To the Ends of the Earth:
In the Footsteps of St. Paul
Emmaus Trip to Turkey
May 24 - June 7, 2025
Hosted by Tom and Lori Guilliams
We are excited to welcome you to join us for an unforgettable trip to Turkey- led by Dr. Steven Notley, Dean of Religious Studies at Pillar College, and hosted by Tom and Lori Guilliams.
The geography now occupied by the country of Turkey is one of the most important land-bridges connecting the eastern and western worlds; containing a wealth of historical treasures. Within its borders, Turkey has witnessed the entirety of ancient church history- this includes all of Paul’s missionary journeys (all three went through the heart of modern-day Turkey), all seven churches mentioned in Revelation, recipients of several of Paul’s letters (Galatia, Ephesus, Colossae, Laodicea, and Philemon), all seven of the ancient church councils, and the capital of the eastern church (Constantinople). This history is embedded alongside ancient cities, fortresses, churches, mausoleums, and battle grounds from the bronze age through the crusader period, from the land of the Hittites to the Ottoman Empire.
Tom and Steve have prepared a unique itinerary that allows us to explore the vast wonders of Turkey- including the oft-neglected areas surrounding Tarsus, Galatia and Cappadocia. As we traverse this rugged terrain, we will have opportunities to navigate the journeys of Paul; discussing the challenges he faced in bringing the message of the gospel to the Jews and Gentiles living in these villages and cities- and comparing how those challenges still confront us today. We will witness both small (some yet-to-be excavated) sites to monumental Greco-Roman remains (Ephesus), walking along some of the same roads traveled by Paul himself. Beyond all these riches, will be the opportunity to form new relationships with like-minded travelers- as we walk, eat and learn together.
Take some time to explore this website, where you’ll find answers to many of your questions. All are welcome to join us as we embark on this adventure.
